Don't define your world in black and white because there is so much hiding amongst the greys - Anonymous
Black and white is creativity
For our parents, their love story started with Black and White pictures amongst trees and flowers, crouching just to get the perfect black and white film. My love for black and white is not the colour or film used but in the elements, the tones, textures, shapes and composition of this creative mind. Sometimes I imagine the colourful world I lived in to be tones of grey exposing their form and secrets, getting correct exposure and making a memory. Black and white photography was a creative choice and still is creative till today.
Black and white is a timeless piece
We all see the world in colours which actually shows reality in a unique kind of way. Stripping the world off its colours does not show reality but gives us a new way of visualizing life and things around us. Colour is a very strong element and above its visual impact can awaken strong emotional response in the eyes of the viewer and this has a significant cultural connection. Black and white is beautiful and brings about nostalgic feelings in association with its timeless beauty.
Some jargons.....
Monochrome: Consists of a single colour with varying intensity against a neutral background. All black and white images are monochrome, but not all monochrome images are black and white
Tone: When colours are changed to black and white, like conversion, we'll see that they become shades of grey or tones. Light colours become light tones and vice versa for black colours.

Tim booth and the aesthetic black and white
His versatile work encompasses portraiture, storytelling, and dreamy landscapes. And they’re executed with immaculate technique.
Architectural inspiration from Julia Anna Gospordarou
As an architect and fine art black and white photographer, Gospodarou combines her skills to create breathtaking images of architecture.
She features grand buildings from all around the world on her social media and website.
Adelia Filip - Texture and Light
For otherworldly black and white landscapes and portraits, check out Filip’s photography on Instagram. Her flawless photos celebrate textures, tones, shadows, and light in nature.
People sometimes feature in her work, but they tend to be secondary to the overall mood that Filip creates. I love the softness of her black and white photos.
Nicolas Decoopman - Moods and Monochrome
Decoopman sets the mood and communicates personality clearly in his photos through composition. It took me some time before I realized that we seldom see a clear view of faces and bodies in his work.
The weather is often a secondary hero in his photographs. Decoopman demonstrates that grey, wet weather is no barrier to photography.
Noriaki Kimura - Quiet Monochrome
If you want to feel meditative, check out Kimura’s breathtaking black and white photographs on Instagram. The quiet and beautifully lit landscapes evoke a sense of calm, even when the clouds look stormy.
He celebrates and respects simple details in his photography such as, water ripples, and petals. It all looks so easy, but we know it’s not!
Finally,
Sometimes we get into a creative rut in our black and white photography and need to approach stories and subjects differently.
Whether you’re researching Instagram photographers, famous photographers, or emerging talent at your local gallery, you can always learn something new from other photographers.
Photography isn’t just about holding your camera and clicking the shutter. Pour yourself a coffee, put your feet up, and do some online research to take your black and white photos to the next level.
That's it for today, hope you enjoyed it. Pls leave a comment to encourage me more. See you soon.
